It sounds trite but it really is correct. Your opening paragraph has to summarise the content of the article and why it is important to the reader - the proposition. The body of the article provides the expansion on the theme - the argument. The final paragraph is a QED, a summation of how you proved the proposition you started with. This works for a 300 word press release or a few thousand word article. It partcularly works when an editor has to decide whether or not to include your article - if the first paragraph doesn&#039;t tell him/her why the article should be of interest then it won&#039;t get published.
